Air Brake Practice Test 2026 - Free Air Brake Knowledge Practice Questions and Study Guide

Emptying the air tanks after every working day is essential for maintaining the efficiency and effectiveness of an air brake system. Over time, moisture and oil can accumulate in the compressed air tanks due to the natural condensation that occurs when the air is compressed. If this moisture is not removed, it can lead to several issues such as corrosion within the system, freezing of moisture in colder temperatures, and potential malfunction of the air brake system.

By emptying the tanks daily, you ensure that any accumulated water and oil are removed, thus preventing these problems and ensuring that the braking system operates reliably. Regular maintenance, including daily checks, is a best practice for any trucking operation or user of air brake systems to enhance safety and performance. This daily routine is more frequent than the other suggested intervals, which may not adequately address the moisture buildup in the tanks.
